We received the following information at the meeting on February 28 from Ken Simin, the partnerships coordinator with the SLCC Community Writing Center:

The SLCC Community Writing Center (CWC) is partnering with the SLC Library to promote civic engagement, specifically through writing.  We are asking the public to write letters to public officials of their choice on a matter that concerns them (we will assist in locating the relevant officials).  The Writing for Change events will be held at the various city library branches.  The next event is March 16 at the Sprague Branch Library.  

Since the CWC is state funded, we can’t dictate specific topics.  Instead, we are contacting agencies that better know the issues that directly affect their clients and/or participants and, as a result, could encourage them to use their “voice” via the pen.
