The following comes from Becka Roolf in the Salt Lake City Transportation Division. The proposal referenced is also attached to this posting. ELPCO is planning to have discussion on this topic in the June meeting following the Waterwise discussion that was previously scheduled.
Attached please find a proposal from the Salt Lake City Transportation Division for a new striping pattern for 900 South between 700 East and Windsor St. (860 East). As you undoubtedly know, this road is currently being reconstructed. When this project is complete, in about a month, the Transportation Division is considering a new configuration as a three-lane road (one lane in each direction, plus a center turn lane) with bike lanes. 900 South already carries only one lane through the 9th & 9th intersection, and traffic volumes are very compatible with a three-lane road. I believe that you have a community council meeting next Thursday, June 24, and I hope you can share this information about the project at this meeting. I would welcome any feedback that you or other members of the community may have either before or after your meeting. Unfortunately, I will be unavailable to make a presentation at that meeting as I will be out of town next week. However, I would be happy to answer any advance questions you may have on the project. Should you by chance have significant questions/concerns such that you would like a representative of the Transportation Division to present at the community council meeting, please let me know by this Friday so that I can arrange it. Salt Lake City Transportation Division will be circulating this proposal as a flyer door-to-door to residents and businesses along the street. UPDATE from Becka (6/17/2010): First, we apologize that we will not be able to send a representative to the meeting due to other commitments. We will send a large-format striping drawing and some handouts in lieu of a presentation, and would welcome any comments. Second, as indicated in the flyer, please send comments or questions to
